Our Story

701 Candles started close to home.

When we decided to make candles, we cared about more than the fragrance. We wanted to be proud of the whole candle, from the wax and scent to the vessel it came in.

That meant choosing the best materials we could source. We settled on coconut-apricot wax and layered, balanced fragrances. We took the same care with the finished candle as we did with what went into it.

We’re based in Dickinson, North Dakota. This is home, and it’s part of what gives 701 Candles its character. You’ll find that connection in our scent names, our stories, and the details of each candle.

We’re a Pride of Dakota member, part of a community of businesses making and creating here in North Dakota.

We hand-pour in small batches so we can pay attention to how each candle looks, burns, and fills a room. It keeps us close to the work and gives us the chance to get the details right.

While refining our process, we noticed something we hadn’t planned for: the flame shining through the engraved label. It gives off a gentle glow that reminded us of a North Dakota sunset.

That detail became part of what we love about these candles. We hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoy making them.
