Our Story

701 Candles started close to home.

When we decided to make candles, we weren’t going to follow what everyone else was doing. We wanted something more refined, more intentional, and crafted to a higher standard.

From the beginning, that meant using the best materials we could source. A coconut apricot wax for a cleaner, longer burn. Fragrances that are layered, balanced, and never overpowering. Every decision came down to one thing: if it wasn’t better, we weren’t making it.

Based in Dickinson, North Dakota, 701 Candles is shaped by the pace of life out here—quiet mornings, long days, and the kind of evenings where things finally slow down. That’s what we design for. Not trends or seasons, but the moments in between.

Each candle is hand-poured in small batches to maintain control over how it looks, how it burns, and how it fills a space. The goal is simple: to create a candle that represents North Dakota—honest, intentional, and held to a higher standard.

While refining our process, we noticed something we hadn’t planned for—the way the flame carries through the engraved label, giving off a gentle glow, like a North Dakota sunset.
